On September 5, 6, and 7 over seven hundred university students, faculty members, and advisers from more than two hundred different universities in England, Scotland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Canada, and the United States gathered in the original edifice of The Mother Church to consider the mission of Christian Science college organizations, formed in accordance with Article XXIII, Section 8, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy.

For three days the gathering pondered the importance of college organization activities as they affect the spiritual progress of the individual student, the leavening of thought within the academic community, the future growth of the Church of Christ, Scientist, and the development of world events.

After the first conference of this type in 1955, The Mother Church received hundreds of expressions of appreciation from university students who attended. Fruitage was evident in the increasing number of new college organizations to be listed in The Christian Science Journal and in widening reports of healing and progress through organization testimony meetings, lectures, and other activities.
