HEARING THE "SOUND OF ABUNDANCE OF RAIN"

So great was Elijah's spiritual understanding of God's ability to supply every human need that he heard the "sound of abundance of rain" and directed Ahab (I Kings 18:41), "Get thee up, eat and drink." One learns from the Bible story that it had not rained for three years, yet when Elijah heard the sound of the "abundance of rain," it did rain plentifully very soon after.

In the Bible we read of many healings resulting from a scientific expectation of good. Jesus, on many occasions, told those whom he healed that their faith had healed them. In direct contrast is the account in Matthew of Jesus' neighbors in Nazareth who expected nothing of him or his teachings and were not healed.

How magnificent was Jesus' spiritual understanding and faith as he stood before the tomb of Lazarus and said (John 11:41, 42): "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me." After he had thus spoken, he commanded Lazarus to come forth. And we are told that "he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin."
