"WAIT" AND "WALK"

In some large cities on busy street corners there are two electric signs, one reading, "Wait," and the other, "Walk." These signs are illuminated alternately, guiding pedestrians in crossing streets, and this guidance assists automobile traffic also to move in an orderly and expeditious manner.

In the human experience there are times when one should go forward, and there are other times when one should wait. There are many instances in the Bible illustrating divine guidance in human affairs. Students of Christian Science study the Bible and learn to profit by experiences told there. In her book "Retrospection and Introspection" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us that she studied the Scriptures for three years before she found the solution of Mind-healing, revealed as Christian Science. We also should study the Scriptures and ponder the lessons to be gained from them, including the fact that there is a time to wait and a time to go forward.

In the book of Exodus we read that when the Israelites at the Red Sea discovered they were being followed by the Egyptians, they were afraid. Then came Moses' divinely directed command (Ex. 14:13), "Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord." Soon came God's command to go forward, and the children of Israel went forward through the Red Sea on dry land.
