"ANIMAL MAGNETISM UNMASKED"

At one Thanksgiving Day service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, a student of Christian Science found her heart filled with gratitude for the Lesson-Sermon to be read the following Sunday— "Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced." She thought of the magnificent courage it had required on the part of Mary Baker Eddy to include that topic in her list of Lesson-Sermons for the Christian Science Quarterly.

Well did the student remember the story of Mrs. Eddy's attempts to get the printer to finish "Science and Health," as the first edition of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was entitled. These attempts were futile until Mrs. Eddy included in the last chapter some of her observations of animal magnetism, observations which now appear in the chapter entitled "Animal Magnetism Unmasked." The divine Love which inspired and guided all of her steps after her great discovery of the ever present healing Christ opened Mrs. Eddy's eyes to the need for uncovering and exposing evil in all its phases in order that it could be proved powerless by the seeker for Truth.

There would be no heaven if evil of any nature were believed to be lurking somewhere outside it, ready to spring upon the unwary. Only the infinitude of good is heaven, which means that there is nothing outside, no beyond, where aught of an opposite character can exist. This being so, no greater blessing could befall mankind than to have every suggestion of a carnal mind and its enmity against God uncovered and seen to be powerless because nonexistent.
