ARE WE USING THE BEATITUDES?

Christ Jesus, our incomparable Master, left to us a rich legacy—the priceless treasure of his comforting Beatitudes; and he left these jeweled blessings to us for one vital purpose: to be used in our daily lives.

Let us, then, seriously ask ourselves: Are we making the most of our inheritance of the Beatitudes by utilizing them? Have we been glorifying God by using our bequest joyously to help a member of our family in need or lovingly to ease the path for a lonely individual who perhaps thinks of himself as our enemy? Did we enrich the life of a neighbor yesterday by expressing a benevolent understanding of his problem?

Are we using our legacy today by sharing its health-giving, compassionate touch with the friend whose eyes are temporarily saddened, by reporting its message of freedom and hope to one who seems to be burdened with cares? Are we hourly spiritualizing our thinking so that we shall be ready tomorrow to be a faithful worker in the Father's vineyard with and for our fellow men?
