THE PRACTICAL POSSIBILITIES OF LOVE

Jesus said that to love God supremely and our neighbor as ourself is the essence of the Ten Commandments. He knew God to be divine Principle, Love, controlling and governing the universe, including man. His spiritual standpoint enabled him to understand the scientific application of the deific commands to human problems.

The Ten Commandments, which were revealed to Moses as law, point out men's duty to God and furnish the highest possible standard of harmonious human relationships. To the Israelites, Moses affirmed without fear of contradiction or reversal (Dent. 5:33), "Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess."

Under Moses' leadership the Israelites experienced many proofs of God's loving care. The pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night guided them through the wilderness, the Red Sea divided, making a safe path for them, the waters of Marah were made sweet, quails were sent, and manna fell. Obedience to God's law brought to light Love's possibilities.
