GOD'S HEALING MESSAGE

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Norman and Robin are young Christian Scientists. They have learned to understand God, our heavenly Father, as divine Mind, Life, Truth, and Love and to know their true selfhood as spiritual, made in God's own image and likeness and reflecting His goodness and power. They love to use the truths of Christian Science to help them with their lessons in school and to heal themselves when error seems to come in the shape of sickness or accident. They have often proved the truth of the promise which Christ Jesus gave to all of us when he said (John 14:12), "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."

One day when Norman and Robin with their father and mother were visiting in Grandmother's house, they played a jolly game, laughing and pushing each other around and having a lot of fun. Somehow Norman stumbled backwards against the sharp corner of a stone window ledge which made quite a deep cut in the back of his head. The pain seemed very bad and Grandmother said, "Let us all say 'the scientific statement of being.'"

Mary Baker Eddy gives us this statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It begins (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

Father and Mother and Grandmother and Robin said "the scientific statement of being" aloud and all together. They said it carefully and with all their hearts, because they knew that its words are God's healing words. But still the pain in Norman's head seemed very bad. and he had to lie down on the sofa.

Now Father and Mother and Grandmother and Robin did not feel troubled or anxious about Norman, because they knew that God is All and everywhere. They also knew that when error seems to stay with us and make us think that we have been hurt and are in pain, we can turn to God, divine Love, and ask Him to help us. Then, as we keep very quiet, we shall feel God's tender love, and we shall know that He loves us and is taking care of us all the time.

God always hears and answers His children when they pray to Him for help. And He heals even kind of error, no matter how big it may seem to be, by showing that He never made it and that therefore it is not real.

Knowing this, Father and Mother and Grandmother and Robin said "the scientific statement of being" over once more, and this time Norman said it with them. They said it happily and with all their hearts, and when they came to the last words, "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual," they knew that Norman was truly God's perfect spiritual child, safe from accident and hurt of every kind.

Then an angel message came to Norman from divine Mind, and he thought: "Why, I am God's perfect child, and God is my loving Father-Mother; so He never made anything that could hurt me." The next moment his head stopped hurting, and he felt well. That was the end of the error. Norman got off the sofa, and he and Robin went on playing their jolly game.

Christ Jesus said (Matt. 28: 20), "Lo, I am with you alway." Today we do not see Jesus walking about in towns and villages, making us well when we seem to be sick or hurt and showing us how to be brave and good. But we know that Christ, Truth, is with us always. On page 332 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness."

When we listen, we shall hear the voice of Truth speaking God's healing message. It may come to us, as it came to Norman, in our own thoughts of courage and of trust in divine Love. We can always know that God's thoughts are good and happy. And happy thoughts bring unselfish thoughts, for, being happy ourselves, we want to help other people to be happy. When brave and trustful and happy and unselfish thoughts shine out in all that we say and do, error will not be able to frighten or hurt us, because we are busy reflecting our heavenly Father's goodness and power.
