CONTROLLING THE FLOODS OF ERROR

A Peaceful stream makes its shaded or sunlit way through green valleys, past primitive fields and forests. The quiet wavelets mingle their rhythmic sounds with the laughter of happy children playing on golden sands. How aptly the phenomena of nature depict human scenes that are bright. Yet, under the impact of sudden storm and turbulent elements in eruption, the stream may be turned into a surging flood, engulfing villages, and the waves into foaming surf, pounding with destructive fury.

In the modern world, flood control by reforestation, dam building, and dredging of rivers is receiving attention. Even more heartening for mankind is the effective method presented by Christian Science for the control and elimination of such turbulent human emotions as hatred, fear, jealousy, covetousness. and revenge, which would engulf families in strife and the world in gaunt warfare.

The Psalmist, indicating that the true idea of God's omnipotence and the heeding of the still small voice of Truth are the most effectual methods of controlling floods of error, wrote (Ps. 93:3,4): "The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea."
