While I was employed at a retail...
While I was employed at a retail store a number of years ago, part of my work was to strip the skins from rabbits. One day I became so ill that I was practically unable to think for myself and could not remember any of the truths I had learned in Christian Science through many years of study. I called a practitioner for help, which was lovingly given, but there was little evidence of improvement.
The members of my family were not interested in Christian Science, and they insisted that I be examined by a medical doctor. I told them that if it would ease their concern I would be willing to have such an examination, but would not use any medication or treatment prescribed by the doctor. I was taken to the doctor's office. The doctor was of the opinion that I was suffering from rabbit fever, and a blood test verified his diagnosis. He said that I ought to be hospitalized, but because of my religious convictions he would be willing to give me medicine at my home. I thanked him for his kindness and stated that I did not care to use medicine of any kind.
When I returned home I grew worse, and at times I lost consciousness. Christian Science treatment was continued, and it was sometimes necessary to call the practitioner during the night. One day when the practitioner called and talked to me of God's goodness and love, I did not comprehend what he was saying. He called me by name and said: "God is everpresent Life. He is your Life now."
