THROUGH LENS AND PRISM

The universal search for basic or true values goes on continously, yet "Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised." So writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 174 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Because Truth is not seen by the eyes, it is seldom understood by mankind and hence little practiced. Christ Jesus said to his disciples (Matt. 13:16, 17): "Blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them."

Through the lens of divine Science, new vistas are opened up to those ready to accept them. Christian Science enables us to perceive spiritually and to understand more of God—to find fundamental values. Through study and unfoldment our spiritual perception is enlarged. This broadened vision helps us to better appreciate the vastness of unlimited divine Mind. Mrs. Eddy sometimes uses such terms as "microscope," "lens," and "prism" in her writings. These optical terms link the familiar with the unfamiliar so that we are better able to evaluate clearly, see fully, and accept understandingly the positive of spiritual treasures and ideas. Full acceptance of divine Truth, Life, and Love leaves no place for negative beliefs or error in any form.

Mrs. Eddy reminds us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 194): "Divine Science is not an interpolation of the Scriptures, but is redolent with love, health, and holiness, for the whole human race. It only needs the prism of this Science to divide the rays of Truth, and bring out the entire hues of Deity, which scholastic theology has hidden. The lens of Science magnifies the divine power to human sight; and we then see the supremacy of Spirit and the nothingness of matter." Through the lens of Science we understand the true value of man and see him as the son of God, upright, pure, and free from any material limitation. A fuller appreciation of one's true worth maintained continously will assure dominion over any seeming lack of health, supply, or happiness in the experience of the sincere student.
