THE ONLY TRUE HISTORY

[Original article in French]

It may seem trite to compare human history to a puppet show. But it cannot be denied that the comparison is warranted, and it may be of interest to see just why.

The writer remembers that during his childhood, puppet shows made such an impression on him that he could not see one without trembling with fright and without having a nightmare afterward. If he had realized that the little men, whose gestures upset him and caused his tears, were nothing but pieces of wood and bits of cloth, animated by invisible human hands, his grief would have been quickly changed into a happier reaction.

Similarly, adults need to be extricated from their habit of contemplating and accepting as real the material world around them. Just as children must learn that puppets have no real life in them but are manipulated by a hand concealed within them, so individuals must gain an understanding of God, Life, which will lift them above the distress caused by their entirely incorrect way of looking at things.
