[Original testimony in French]

Born and raised in France in a religious family, I was sent away from home to a religious boarding school. Before the end of my fourth year in high school I was so disappointed and dissatisfied with the doctrine taught there that I left school and discontinued all practice of the religious teaching I had received.

All alone I started to travel extensively, hoping to find the something holier and higher that my heart was craving. Although I felt certain that some day I would find God and the answer to all problems, my search, which took me over five continents, was to no avail whatever.

Finally I landed in New York City, where I had a feeling of loneliness and of being lost, a feeling I had often experienced before. I had nothing to lean on and nothing to which to return. One day I suffered a severe injury to my back. Two ligaments were torn, and two vertebrae were so badly damaged that pressure was exerted against the spinal cord. Excrutiating pain was accompanied by a gradual loss of motion in my lower limbs. After two major operations I was left with even more pain and had little hope of being active again.
