MAN'S POSSESSIONS

Through Mary Baker Eddy's discovery, Christian Scientists learn that God is Principle, eternally established and wholly good; that God is invariable Truth, unending Life, ever-present Love; that He is Mind, the only source of ideas; that He is Soul, the only source of consciousness; and that He is Spirit, the embodiment of all activity. Understanding God as the source of all-powerful, everywhere present spiritual ideas, one can know with certainty that His image and likeness, man, must be wholly good because he reflects God's eternal goodness.

Because he is the exact likeness of Spirit, man is not material. Because Soul is the source of consciousness, man receives an abundant outpouring of true wealth in the form of spiritual ideas. The prophet Malachi was inspired to write (3:10), "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

Understood as God's image and likeness, man is seen to be the direct recipient of boundless spiritual wealth in the form of present, powerful, perfect ideas which cannot be lost, destroyed, or withheld. These ideas are the only possessions he can have, and they are his in abundance through reflecting God. Man is God's expression; he manifests Godlike attributes, such as stability, permanence, success, right activity, and so on. The understanding of these truths is the foundation of true spiritual wealth.
