Science and Health Mrs. Eddy...

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy tells us (p. 369), "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." The knowledge of the truth of this teaching enabled me to overcome an inharmonious condition.

I was scheduled to conduct a technical discussion in a distant city, and because of the time element in relation to other commitments, it was necessary to go by air. Arrangements were made to travel in a type of airplane that flies at high altitudes. Early in the week, however, a cold developed, manifested by congestion in the nasal passages. Well-meaning friends who knew of the trip I planned to take became very solicitous, pointing out that to go forward with my plans under such conditions might lead to severe complications. These cautions were met mentally with the affirmations that man is under no law but the law of Principle, God, that man is ever with God, good, that he is given the strength needful to perform his duties, and that he is incapable of coming under any penalty for doing them.

The forebodings were very insistent, however, and it seemed wise to enlist help; so I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me. This help was immediately and lovingly given. Shortly before flight time, word came that registration for the meeting was disappointingly small, and I immediately took up prayerful work so that the careful preparations which had been made would not be nullified by lack of attendance.

I boarded the plane with serene confidence that I was in God's care. We enjoyed a smooth, pleasant flight of four hours, during which I reviewed and polished my discussion outline and notes. At breakfast the following day the secretary of the meeting told me there had been an influx of unregistered attendants so that the count was within two of the maximum number desired. I spoke for two hours in the morning and conducted a three-hour discussion seminar in the afternoon without fatigue or discomfort. The meeting was voted to have been very interesting and instructive. Shortly after the close of the session, I enjoyed a pleasant flight home. It was then I noticed that my nasal passages were clear and realized they had not bothered me at any time since I had asked for help.

I am deeply grateful to God, who has blessed me abundantly in many ways; to Christ Jesus, who so completely demonstrated the Father's care for man, His beloved idea; and to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, through whose teachings we may learn how to avail ourselves of God's love,— Arthur Wilkins, New York, New York.
