LOVE MEETS OUR NEEDS

Is there anyone who does not desire good? We all want to be loved, and we all wish for health and success. Christian Science brings us the comforting news that God does not withhold any good thing from His beloved children. But we may well ask if there is not something we must do in order to receive the good things desired. Indeed there is. Christ Jesus declared (Matt. 22:37, 39): "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind," and, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." This, then, is the answer to what we all must do: we must learn to love unselfishly. The command to love is repeated again and again in the Bible. Why is love demanded? Because only as we love God and His creation can we truly live. To have a more abundant life, therefore, we must love as Jesus did. Hate, resentment, and fear are negations, the absence of Love, the absence of Life. One's harmony and success increase as one's love for God and man increases.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." It is logical to conclude that as one expresses Love, not hate, his need will be met, whether the need be for health, supply, or companionship. "Love is the fulfilling of the law" (Rom. 13:10) is the answer to every need.

Love cannot be had for the mere asking, nor can it be bought. It must be lived. We must be in accord with Love if we would receive its blessings. Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 337), "For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ."
