THE HEARING EAR

Hearing is a spiritual faculty, and we must seek and find its spiritual origin if we would know what hearing really is. Hearing is the perfect understanding that exists in the perfect Mind or God and is expressed in man. The material ear is not the seat of hearing. Hearing is mental, but if man's consciousness were material, his hearing would be material and thus liable to loss or confusion.

We must not base hearing on so-called mortal mind but on God, Spirit. According to mortal mind, hearing is dependent on vibration; but Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 259), "Vibration is not intelligence; hence it is not a creator." The rhythm of Spirit expresses the perpetual harmonies and intelligence of divine Love. When we base our hearing upon Spirit, we no longer strain to hear speech in terms of vibrations, but we rest and relax in the assurance that communication comes to us through spiritual understanding. The real man expresses the rhythm of Spirit.

All action, whether it is hearing, seeing, moving, or feeling, takes place in Mind and not in matter. It is not coming to consciousness from without; it is inherent in true consciousness, for the kingdom of heaven is within.
