It is with deep gratitude that I...
It is with deep gratitude that I testify to the healing power of Christian Science. About fifteen years ago I was a nervous wreck and was suffering from anemia, stomach convulsions, and other ills too numerous to mention. Having been considered delicate since childhood, I had tried various medical remedies, so-called rest cures, and changes of climate. As each material remedy failed, I was obsessed with such an increasing sense of fear that I was on the verge of collapse. I had even begun to think that God was merely a myth. However, I decided to make one final plea to Him, and I prayed as never before that if there was a God He would please tell me what to do.
The very next day a friend asked me why I did not try Christian Science, adding, "It can't hurt you, and you have tried everything else." Although I had no idea what Christian Science teaches, I called on a practitioner that day. I shall never forget the sense of love and confidence I felt in her presence. After this visit I began reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and my mounting fear was stemmed. I was grateful beyond words to find Christian Science to be a practical religion which explains God as definable, all-loving, and ever-present, instead of as unknown, unpredictable, and far away. Slowly but surely the nervous condition and all the other difficulties were completely healed.
During the period of study and regeneration that followed, spiritual growth was manifested in the business world. I had been miserably unhappy for several years in a certain position, but every attempt to make a change had failed. After considerable study of Christian Science and the help of a practitioner, it was made clear to me that I must let go of human planning and have a sincere desire to work where I could be most useful. I could in my present position, God would either direct me to another place or else whatever was offensive in my present position would be removed. Fear, pride, impatience, quick temper, self-pity, and human planning were subdued. I was led to a type of work that I had not known existed, and I loved doing it.
