SETTLE IT!

When the Master said to his disciples, "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him" (Matt. 5:25), he obviously did not use the word agree in the usual meaning, which indicates assent or concession. A more applicable dictionary definition is "to come to terms" or to settle. The great Way-shower wasted no effort in arguing with the false pretenses of mortal mind. To him, God's power was the only power.

Christ Jesus spoke with authority and firmly rebuked pharisaical hypocrisy. He healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on the water. He admonished his followers (Matt. 5:37), "Let your communication be, Yea, yea: Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."

The recognition of God's allness is a powerful factor in answering various arguments of material sense which sometimes seem to beset the individual. However, Christian Science gives assurance that, in reality, one is never the helpless victim of unseen evil forces; always he is subject to God's law of universal harmony. We must claim our oneness with that law so dearly that there will be no occasion for contrary argument. We must understand that man in God's likeness forever abides in the security of Spirit; that nothing can place him outside of God's loving care. We must turn away from false material sense testimony and wholeheartedly claim our dominion as God's perfect children. It is thus our prerogative to say definitely "Yea, yea" to whatever is good, and as authoritatively to say "Nay, nay" to that which is not in accord with the law of Love.
