It is with a feeling of paying a debt long overdue that I write this expression of gratitude to God for our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for Christian Science. In 1912 I began attending the services of a Christian Science Society and purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

At that time I had a serious eye trouble, because of which I had to have specially ground lenses in order to carry on my work as a milliner. Shortly after I began reading the textbook, the glasses were broken and had to be sent to a nearby city for repairs. When they returned I dropped and broke them again. Not until after they were mailed the third time for repairs was my thought sufficiently lifted to realize that I had been healed and no longer needed the glasses.

In the first chapter of Genesis we read (verse 26), "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." I have continued to claim this likeness as my real selfhood. On page 486 of Science and Health we read, "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal."
