In 1950 I had definite proof of Mary Baker Eddy's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66), "Trials are proofs of God's care." Shortly after taking a position in a motherless home where there were three children, I awoke one morning and found that I could hardly see. Thinking that perhaps my glasses needed changing, I made an appointment with an optician. After a thorough examination he told me that my glasses did not need changing, but that something very serious had taken place. He then escorted me next door to an eye specialist.

After another thorough examination I was told that there had been a brain hemorrhage, which was clouding my vision. I asked if this condition would get better as time went on, but his reply was, "On the contrary, it will grow worse."

After leaving his office I went directly to the office of a Christian Science practitioner, where I related what had happened and asked her for treatment. On leaving her office I found myself free from fear and with a great sense of faith and hope. I did not return to the eye specialist, and I continued working.
