I became interested in Christian Science...

I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of my baby over twenty-eight years ago. She was unable to eat or sleep, and she did not respond to any medical treatment. Finally the doctor said that there was nothing he could do for her. Through the help of a Christian Science practitioner she was healed. Seeing this with my own eyes led me to believe that Science would help me also, and I borrowed the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, from a Christian Science Reading Room.

Nearly every spring I had suffered from quinsy and tonsillitis. After reading the textbook, I realized that I had been completely healed of these diseases, and I have never had a recurrence of them. I used to take medicine for headaches, constipation, and various other diseases, but with the help of practitioners from time to time and my own study of Science these ailments vanished, and I disposed of all the medicine to which I had been a slave.

When my mother passed on, a practitioner helped me to lift my thoughts above materiality so that I was able to go forward without the usual difficulty that I had seen experienced by others. One night I lay awake thinking of the commandment (Deut. 6:5), "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." The thought then came to me that I was not proving my love for God, because I had not been faithful in my daily study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I decided that I would study the whole lesson every day, even if it meant rising an hour earlier. This I have tried to do, and the joy and peace of mind resulting from this study have helped me to progress. In addition, more harmony has been experienced in the home.
