RADIO PROGRAM No. 115 - The Right Kind of Faith

On this program Garvin Parkins of Compton, California, told of his own experience. The program was as follows:

Speaker: We hear a lot these days about faith, and I think almost everyone recognizes his need of the right kind of faith—faith that does not fail even in the most difficult situations. There is such faith, a faith that is built on a spiritual understanding of God. Our guest today saw how practical such understanding can be while he was in the Navy. Now here is Garvin Parkins of Compton, California. Mr. Parkins served as a machinery repairman on a destroyer tender, and we've asked him to tell you about an experience he had aboard ship.

Mr. Parkins: During a Mediterranean cruise I was repairing a lathe in the ship's machine shop. It was necessary to put a large and heavy attachment on a lathe. As I bent down and lifted this attachment, I felt something pull in my back. I managed to straighten up, but I couldn't bend down again because of severe pain. Also, I found I couldn't move my legs. At first I wanted to ask two men near my machine for help. Then I knew that God is our help and our strength, and He never sends fear. Soon I could move well enough to get to a box and sit down. I shut my eyes and thanked God. knowing that He was the only power.
