My heart is filled with unspeakable gratitude for the gift of Christian Science. This wonderful truth found me at a time when human life appeared desolate. I was lovingly guided to share an apartment with a Christian Scientist, and through her I was led to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

When I first attended a Wednesday testimony meeting I was impressed by the structural beauty of the church and the beautiful wall inscriptions. When I heard individuals give oral testimonies of God's healing power, I was left in complete awe. The atmosphere was so permeated with Love and with expressions of deep gratitude for God's abundant goodness that even I, a stranger, felt very much at home.

Several progressive years have elapsed since the veil of darkness was lifted and my eyes beheld the light of spiritual reality. Glasses for reading were discarded shortly after I began studying the textbook. Another healing which occurred was that of the smoking habit of seven years' standing. This healing was accomplished by my great desire to be rid of a depraved appetite. Mrs. Eddy declares (Science and Health, p. 406), "The depraved appetite for alcoholic drinks, tobacco, tea, coffee, opium, is destroyed only by Mind's mastery of the body. This normal control is gained through divine strength and understanding." This verse in Psalms aided me considerably (145:16): "Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing."
