Christian Science has been the...

Christian Science has been the only physician I have ever had. Having been enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School when very young, I realize now what a blessing those years in the Sunday School have been to me. They have better enabled me to meet the problems that presented themselves in later years, especially during the period when my husband was overseas in combat. At this time Science was our constant support and strength.

I should like to recount two instances of mental surgery which we have experienced in our home through the study and application of Christian Science. One day I was stricken with a very sharp pain. The pain soon became excruciating, although I was earnestly applying my understanding of Christian Science. Help was sought from a practitioner, and after several hours of earnest work on her part, the pain ceased. Although it recurred to some extent during the next two weeks, it gradually lessened until it faded away entirely. During this time it became evident that I needed to gain a greater sense of strength. I was asked to study Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 514), "Moral courage is 'the lion of the tribe of Juda,' the king of the mental realm." This statement, together with "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health, was constantly with me during that period.

One morning a week later, during which time I was completely free from pain, as I was silently expressing gratitude for this freedom, a sense of the ever-presence of God filled my consciousness. With this came a great feeling of warmth and love. A short time later, a kidney stone was passed with no sense of pain whatever. This healing occurred three years ago and has been permanent.
