Christian Science proves that there are no circumstances, however dangerous or fearful, in which men find themselves, where God's help is not available to them. This ever-availability of God's help and protection was demonstrated to me when my wife and I, together with some friends, were in a pleasure boat off the coast of Florida. As the sea was very rough, the captain had anchored our boat in a bay on the lee side of an island about a mile from the channel running into the ocean.

In the late afternoon I decided to go swimming. Not being a strong swimmer, I intended to swim near the boat. As soon as I was in the water I became aware of a fast outgoing tide. I endeavored to make contact with the boat, but the tide was so swift that it swept me past the boat, and I was unable to swim back. Soon I realized that I was being carried farther and farther away. I called for help, and my companions in the boat threw a life buoy toward me, but I could not reach it.

Although I continued striving with all my strength, I drifted a long distance from the boat and much nearer the channel. I became exhausted and gasped for breath.
