Late one night I began to suffer...
Late one night I began to suffer from an intense fever and other symptoms of illness. My throat appeared to be closing and breathing became very difficult. I opened Science and Health to page 23, where Mrs. Eddy discusses the two words trustfulness and trustworthiness. As I analyzed these two words, it gradually became clear that to experi ence healing I must be full of trust in God, good, the only power and presence, in order to be aware of the perfection of being. Within an hour the conditions which had been so alarming had entirely given way. The next day a sense of weakness was instantly dispelled by my realizing that the same power which had been present in the night was still present, and that man's life and well-being are not at the mercy of fearful, erroneous thinking.
Is it any wonder that Christian Scientists are grateful to God for the knowledge of the ever-presence of the Christ, Truth, as revealed by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose life of purity and devotion established for us the Christian Science organization, which includes so much of continuous benefit to us all? For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and for every privilege of service in the Cause of Christian Science I can never express enough gratitude. — (Mrs.) Dora S. Fetzer, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I am happy to verify my daughter's testimony as related above, and I wish to add a word of gratitude for a similar experience of my own. While entrusted with the care of another who needed my attention I found myself too ill even to get to a telephone to ask for help. We were sharing a room in a private hotel at the time, and I could not put on a light because my charge was sleeping. I decided to retire as quickly as possible. I remember just giving myself into God's care and saying, "Now, dear God, You take care of me." I slept briefly and awakened refreshed and was able to apply the truth as taught in Christian Science. A beautiful healing resulted. I owe my life and all that I have and am to Christian Science. For our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I can never thank God enough.
