It is in deep gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy...

It is in deep gratitude to Mary Baker Eddy for Christian Science that I submit this testimony. My earliest healing in Science occurred when I was about eight years old. I was taken ill with infantile paralysis and was unable to walk. My mother worked for me in Christian Science, and although the healing was slow, many useful lessons were learned from this experience; for instance, the importance of overcoming all fear and doubt. After my healing I went in for all kinds of sports, including climbs in the Alps, and experienced no further difficulty whatever with my legs, thus proving the completeness of my freedom.

During my stay at the Sanatorium of the Christian Science Benevolent Association in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, some years ago several chronic complaints were overcome. Among them were a tendency to faint if I had to stand still for long, and an inability to talk for more than a few minutes without losing my voice. These healings were confirmed on my return to Switzerland, when I had to stand and deliver a two-hour lecture in the course of my studies at the university I was attending. At the same time that these healings occurred, a goiter vanished also.

On one occasion I was riding horseback with some friends when my horse got its hooves caught in a rut and fell. My foot was crushed under the horse, and my head struck a large stone. I was unconscious for some time. One of my friends rode back to the stables and telephoned to a practitioner for help. By the time my friend had returned with a car I had regained consciousness sufficiently to get to my feet and walk to the car. About ten days later every trace of the accident had disappeared.

A healing which has remained a source of great inspiration to me occurred when I was suffering from a cavity in a tooth. I recalled Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 423), "Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them." and I pondered the thought that it should be just as easy to heal a tooth as any other part of the body. An appointment was made with a Christian Science practitioner, and one treatment was given. When I left his office a little later the tooth was healed, and it gave no further difficulty. More important still, an understanding was gained that Mind is the only substance.

A number of years later I had occasion to put this understanding to the test. I received a hard kick in the chest from a frightened horse, and I fell on my fare in the grass, unable to call or even to breathe. For a moment fear gripped me. Then like a flash came the thought: "All is Mind. The material picture is not real. In reality God governs both the horse and me, and God's ideas cannot hurt one another." I got up immediately and went after the horse, which was waiting for me by the stable door. This time not the slightest sign of a bruise appeared on my body, and the only aftereffect was the joy of knowing that I had been able to prove the truth for myself.

In closing I should like to express my gratitude for all the practitioners who at various times have helped me along the way and for the testimonies in our periodicals, which have been a source of great encouragement to me. I hope my testimony may help someone else in return.—(Mrs.) Agnes E. Caldwell, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.
