RADIO PROGRAM No. 68 - Taking Advantage of Today's Challenge

On this program Robert Smoker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, told of his own experience, as follows:

Christian Science made such a change in my life that I hardly recognize myself. Entirely through Christian Science, I have been able to overcome a fear of responsibility that held me back for many years. And I've seen lack of confidence replaced by the courage to go ahead on any job, no matter how difficult it looks.

The situation was this. Before World War II, I taught school, but I felt it meant too much responsibility: so I didn't go back to this line of work. What I wanted was a job where the other fellow would do the worrying, and I seemed to find it in a place in Indiana as deputy to a county treasurer. But my wife was a more earnest student of Christian Science than I was, and she saw the need for more progress. She encouraged me to turn to God for guidance. The practitioner who was helping me through Christian Science pointed out that limitation was no more to be accepted as coming from God than was illness, and that I could conquer it by learning about my true selfhood.
