I am very grateful for Christian Science
I am very grateful for Christian Science. I was privileged to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, beginning in the youngest class and continuing through the oldest class, and I can never express enough appreciation of the consecration of our Sunday School teachers. While I am grateful for many healings through the application of Christian Science, I am also very grateful for the protection I have received as a student of this wonderful truth.
One healing which stands out is that of a poisonous insect bite. I awakened one morning with a very painful and unsightly bite on my face, and it grew bigger as the day progressed. At first the pain was almost unbearable, and I found myself becoming very fearful. I was led to open Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to the Glossary (p. 586), where she defines fear in part as inflammation. I saw that the inflammation was the result of my fear of insects, a fear which I had experienced ever since I was a child. This realization awakened me to the need for more consecrated work and growth in Christian Science.
I took the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's works and found many helpful references to the word growth. One of these is in "Miscellaneous Writings" where our Leader says (p. 206), "Growth is governed by intelligence; by the active, all-wise, law-creating, law-disciplining, law-abiding Principle, God." This passage, with others, I studied consistently for a number of days. Also I studied the week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. One day I saw clearly that the only growth there really is or can be is growth in expressing qualities of God. As we manifest more love, truth, and goodness, then we are truly growing. A very short time after this realization came to me the inflammation completely disappeared, and the fear of insects vanished as well. I am grateful that this healing awakened me to the need for more consistent and more consecrated study of our weekly Bible Lesson, which is always a healing one.
