As a child I was known as the...

As a child I was known as the delicate member of our family, since I was so often ill. When I grew up, my health became worse, and the doctors told me that I had an incurable case of extreme nervous disorder.

When it seemed to me that life was not worth living, a relative heard of Christian Science and took me to a service in a Church of Christ, Scientist. I shall never forget the sense of peace which I felt there, and I knew that the answer to my problem was at hand. I then began to study Science, and as my understanding of God and of His idea, man, gradually unfolded, my doubts and fears left me. Though the path was not always easy, with the help of loving practitioners, who worked for me at different times, the complete healing was realized. One of the passages in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy which I found particularly helpful at that time reads (p. 393), "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good."

Subsequently I have had numerous healings. I should like to give on account of one of them. One Friday morning I awoke with a heavy cold, and although I tried to see its unreality, on the next day it was worse. As I am a Sunday School teacher, it appeared to be advisable to arrange for a deputy teacher. Then the words came to me (ibid., p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." I realized that my duty was to teach in the Sunday School the fact that man is the image and likeness of God and can express only perfection. I worked along this line and was able to be in my place on Sunday. On the following day I was completely well.
