THE SACRED TIES OF HOME

Man lives in the presence of countless blessings. These blessings are God's gifts to man. They are of course spiritual blessings, because God is Spirit and man is spiritual. Spiritual blessings are blessings we require because they are manifest in health and affluence. Thus the consciousness of God's protection, friendliness, comfort, and love enables us to have good health and abundant supply. Spiritual understanding, which enables us to realize our unity with God, will bring the blessings of God's love into our experience in a way we can humanly appreciate.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 58), "Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections." With a settled home and happy environment the Christian Scientist can do better work in Science, and with harmonious surroundings he is naturally a more useful worker in the Father's vineyard.

The adverse influence of animal magnetism would try to break up homes and destroy harmony. That is one reason why students of Christian Science should be so careful to preserve harmonious home life intact and never respond to evil suggestions that sometimes, with the subtlety of the serpent, insinuate that their home life is not congenial. If these suggestions are entertained, a breach is soon made in the unity of happy companionship, and the one who so lately seemed to be a loved and respected companion seems to be irritating and uncongenial.
