THE POWER OF DIVINE LOVE

Mary Baker Eddy assures us of the power of divine Love to heal the ills of men. In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she writes (p. 412): "The power of Christian Science and divine Love is omnipotent. It is indeed adequate to unclasp the hold and to destroy disease, sin, and death."

Mrs. Eddy not only discovered Christian Science and gave us the textbook and her other writings, but also established the Church of Christ, Scientist, She gave us a Board of Lectureship and established the Christian Science periodicals to proclaim the Word of Truth throughout the world. And with the humility which characterized her life, and with deepest gratitude to God, our Leader wrote in a letter to a First Reader (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 247), "The little that I have accomplished has all been done through love,—self-forgetful, patient, unfaltering tenderness."

Christian Science, impelling such love, declares that God is Mind, Spirit, Soul, Principle, Life, Truth, Love—seven synonyms which explain the nature of one absolute God. We often say that Mind is God, but can we not also say that Mind is Love? Infinite Mind, conscious only of its own perfection, harmony, and purity, would of necessity be Love. In a similar way we can say that Spirit and Soul are both Love radiating good; that Principle is Love fulfilled through law; that Life is Love expressed in living; that Truth is Love enhanced in power. Thus we see that divine Love is the Principle by which all good is accomplished.
