It was during the First World...

It was during the First World War that Christian Science was introduced to me. I was then bitterly opposed to what I thought it to be. At that time sorrow after sorrow seemed to come to me as the result of loss of friends, the passing of a dear one, and the breaking up of my home.

"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy had been in our home for some time, but I had refused to read it. However, one day in desperation I opened it to the chapter on Prayer. I shall never forget the comfort and light that came to me as I read. I kept repeating, "Why, this is what I have always believed to be true." I had been brought up as a Jewess and had never read the New Testament, but as I continued to read the textbook I had a growing desire to study the New Testament, which I did very earnestly. I am now convinced beyond all doubt that the advent of Christian Science is the reappearance of the Christ, Truth, which Jesus demonstrated.

Since that first reading of our textbook I have experienced many healings—physical, mental, and moral. One healing stands out clearly. Because of overwork and anxiety my health broke down. The company by which I was employed insisted that I see a specialist, whose verdict was that unless I had medical treatment I would not be able to work again. This made me very fearful, because it was vital to me that I retain my position. I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I was healed and back at the office in a comparatively short time.
