Christian Science is indeed the...
Christian Science is indeed the pearl of great price, and its value to me increases as its real meaning and practicability unfold in consciousness. The realization that there are millions in the world yet to awaken to this wonderful Science of being arouses in me a deep sense of thankfulness that I am among those who have come into some understanding and proof of its verity.
Some time after taking up the study of Science I experienced a sense of discouragement. I did not doubt that Christian Science was the truth, but I shut myself away from it by believing my understanding of it too small to solve my problems spiritually. Apathy was accepted to the extent that I packed away my textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and decided that it would do no harm to let a surgeon examine me for a physical difficulty in order to satisfy the desires of my children. Within a very short time I submitted to an operation. Even with the diseased parts removed from my body, however, I still suffered from pain and was much discouraged. In addition I had spent all of my available money.
One Sunday morning, when conditions were at their worst, I was alone and in too much pain to be out of bed. I turned on the radio, hoping that music might keep my thought off my misery. When the music ceased, a Christian Science program came on. Like a thirsty plant, I drank in the words I heard. By the time the program was finished I felt a great sense of quietness and peace. When I moved I found that I was completely free. Turning off the radio and going to the window, I thought that the grass looked greener than I had ever seen it before and that all nature seemed to be smiling. I felt as if I were standing on holy ground.
