I am deeply grateful that Christian Science was presented to our family by a friend to whom I had written telling of our difficulties. I had had a very serious relapse following a major operation, and the doctor stated that he had done all he could for me. My husband was also in very bad health, as was a sister in our home, and my aged parents, who were with us, needed great care and attention.

My friend advised us to attend a Wednesday testimony meeting at a Church of Christ, Scientist, and gave us the address where these meetings were held. She also advised us to borrow the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Having been brought up by Christian parents, I was grateful to hear the Reader at the testimony meeting read from the King James Version of the Bible, which was the one I had always used. I remember listening eagerly to every word from Science and Health, which reversed my thoughts regarding health.

After the meeting we did as our friend had advised and borrowed the textbook; but although we immediately commenced to read it, our difficulties still persisted. After a while, however, I felt that I earnestly desired to continue studying the textbook so that I might know more of God. As I continued the study with this desire, my healing commenced to be apparent. Although I did not realize it at the time, I have since perceived that I was putting self out of thought and letting God in.
