TALENT UNLIMITED
[Of Special Interest to Young People]
A Young Christian Scientist was very much disturbed because she did not seem to have any particular talent. As she looked at people around her she saw one excelling in dramatic ability, another in sports, another in music, and still another in painting. Her own abilities, by comparison, seemed scattered in many directions and not at all outstanding. Her belief in her apparent lack of one particular talent loomed so large in her thinking that even those things she had proved she could do well now seemed only mediocre.
Turning to Christian Science for aid in solving her problem, she saw the need for expressing gratitude. She found she could be grateful that she knew so many people who were talented, and could be thankful for all the talents they evidenced. Looking for the cause or source of these talents, she realized that all ability, skill, or talent is of God, the Giver of all good. In reality talent is not dependent on one's personal background, humanly inherited ability, schooling, or on any material condition. Talent, like health and harmony, is the natural result of one's clear understanding of man's relationship to, his at-one-ment with, his Father-Mother God.
The Christian Scientist further reasoned that God, being divine Love and unerring Principle, does not give good to one of His beloved children and withhold from another. God gives bountifully, freely, to all, and His gifts are spiritual qualities, not material objects. The student opened "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" to page 13, where Mary Baker Eddy writes: "Love is impartial and universal in its adaptations and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, 'Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.'" Abundant, unlimited talent is therefore ever available for everyone who recognizes its presence.
