Houghton Lake, Michigan (Society).

Dedication of the church edifice of Christian Science Society, Houghton Lake, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 11, at special services attended by members and friends from all parts of the state.

In February, 1944, a group of students of Christian Science living in the vicinity of Houghton Lake began holding meetings in the home of one of their number. Later, and until October of 1949, meetings were held in the Town Hall.

Then the group, before moving into their present location, met in a store building.

Realizing the need for a church home, a building committee was appointed in October of 1948, and upon the recommendation of this committee the group purchased two lots to the south of the present Masonic Temple. Early in 1950 the group was recognized as a Christian Science Society by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and it was decided to build, construction starting in March. First services were held in the new church that year on the second Sunday of May. Wednesday evening testimony meetings and Sunday School were also inaugurated at the same time.
