Increasing Their Effectiveness

[Extracts from two reports prepared for the Reading Room Division by the executive board of a branch church]

Berlin

We should like to begin this report with the Psalmist's words (Ps. 1:3), "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season." Reviewing the years of our endeavor to find rooms appropriate for a Christian Science Reading Room, we realize that progress can be made only "in his season"—that is, under God's law.

Soon after the reopening of our church, in July, 1945, we gratefully and joyfully opened a Reading Room. As matters stood in Berlin at that time it was unwise for us to ask whether that rather quiet street was a fit location for a Reading Room or whether the rooms could be reached easily. We were happy to be a church again and to experience the reinstatement of all the activities of a Church of Christ, Scientist. We were grateful that Christian Science could again be practiced in public. Individual progress of members and adherents was outwardly manifested in the further unfoldment of our concept of Church.
