SUPPLY AND DEMAND
Mankind's entire manner of living is based upon a so-called law of supply and demand. The importance, of this law is so strongly felt that nations, commissions, committees, groups, families, and the best-thinking individuals are constantly endeavoring to find ways and means of keeping supply and demand in proper balance. As reasoning proceeds from a material basis, the conclusion appears to be clear that when there is a larger supply of commodities than there is demand for them, waste, lowered returns from labors, and general hardship result. It also seems that when demand exceeds supply, about the same result follows. Competition for the limited number of things forces prices high; those in less favorable positions are unable to meet the competition, and therefore, for obvious reasons, hardships are forced upon the economy.
In the light of Christian Science, one can see that supply and demand, as mortal mind views them, are false beliefs, based upon limitation. These false, limited beliefs have no power over the real man, who is idea, the perfect reflection of divine Love; and this man, as God's idea, can no more be touched by them than darkness can invade light. The obvious need, therefore, is for one to gain a right view of all these things as taught in Christian Science. Why? Because it is the scientifically correct view of everything that heals.
Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (pp. 60,61): "Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality; and if mortals are instructed in spiritual things, it will be seen that material belief, in all its manifestations, reversed, will be found the type and representative of verities priceless, eternal, and just at hand." Of what is it, then, that the material beliefs of supply and demand hint? They hint of divine Love's infinite supply of all good to each one of its beloved children and of the demand, by reason of the very nature of Mind and of Life, for expression. Therefore, properly speaking, demand and supply are properties of Mind, of God. They are ever present in all their inherent abundance and perfection, and where one is the other is. In God's universe all His qualities are expressed everywhere.
