With a heart filled with gratitude...

With a heart filled with gratitude I wish to share the many blessings our family has received through Christian Science. Some twenty years ago I was having medical treatment for a severe sinus condition. At that time I was not an earnest student of Christian Science, although I attended services in a Church of Christ, Scientist, and occasionally read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. I had been under medical treatment three years for the sinus trouble and was getting worse.

One day, while I was reading the lesson, the words of Jesus (John 10:30), "I and my Father are one," stood out very plainly to me. Later that week my husband and I attended a moving picture, and the sinus condition became so severe that I had to ask my husband to take me home. On arriving home I felt so miserable that I retired. Lying awake, I tried to recall some truths I had read, and the angel thought came clearly to me, "I and my Father are one." I thought, "Yes, surely Christ Jesus was one with the Father, as he was such a Godlike man; but I am not like Jesus." Then I reasoned: "The Bible and Christian Science teach that in reality we are all made in the image and likeness of God; so this difficulty must be a lie about me. How can I become more conscious of Godlikeness?" Then, as if a voice had spoken, I heard the words, "Love more."

I was sure that I was a loving person, but I pondered these words. The name of a certain person came to me, and I realized that I had been holding a deep resentment toward this one, even though I had not expressed it in our relations with each other. Realizing that I must reflect divine Love, I tried to see this person as in reality God's image and had an earnest desire to show more love. In purifying my thoughts I gained a sense of unity with God, and I fell into a peaceful sleep. The next morning I awakened completely free, and all sense of resentment was gone. This healing took place over twenty years ago, and there has been no return of sinus trouble.
