When You Endorse an Application for Membership

It is a privilege to approve an applicant for membership in The Mother Church in accordance with the provisions of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy.

As an approver, one vouches for the spiritual integrity of the applicant and for his readiness for membership in The Mother Church.

It is the responsibility of the approver, not the applicant, to obtain the signature of the countersigner, who must hold the designation of C.S.B. If an approver has had instruction from a teacher of Christian Science, his teacher undoubtedly would be glad to countersign for him. In the event that his teacher is not available for any reason, it is the privilege of the approver to make himself known to some other teacher. This may be done in various ways, one of which may be to obtain a letter from the secretary of his own association, stating that he is in regular standing in the association. It is probable that such a letter will be accepted as sufficient introduction to the teacher, so that he will feel that he conscientiously can countersign the application.
