About twenty-right years ago my...

About twenty-right years ago my testimony appeared in the Sentinel, telling how I became interested in Christian Science. Through its teachings I have been healed of pneumonia, influenza, burns, and the effects of accidents.

While I was serving as Second Reader in a Church of Christ, Scientist, our small daughter became very ill with ptomaine poisoning. For three days she lay in a stupor, eating nothing and rousing only occasionally to ask for water. When Sunday morning came and she was no better my husband and I felt that we could not leave her to go to church. We decided to call a practitioner in another state to help us; and soon we were free enough to go to church, leaving the child in the care of a dear friend. When we came home from the service the child was up and dressed. In a few days she was completely normal.

One experience which has stood out to me concerns the selling of some property in a small town at a time when there seemed no demand for such property. This land, which adjoined a public schoolyard, had previously been desired by the school board, who wanted it and some other property on which to build a new school. The old school was to be left standing until the new one was completed. However, we could not sell at that time. Later, when we could sell, the school board said that they might not buy the property at all and in any case not for a year at least, as they had decided to buy other property and to tear down the old building immediately. This meant that the children would be sent to schools already overcrowded, necessitating half-day sessions of school and long distances for the children to go, and that a number of teachers would be out of work for six months or a year.
