Study Rooms

The Mother Church has received reports that quiet study rooms established by a number of Christian Science Organizations on college campuses are proving to be most helpful. Christian Scientists in the college community find that their study rooms provide a haven where they may withdraw momentarily from what is sometimes a confusing and sophisticated intellectual atmosphere and quietly commune with God.

The Northwestern University organization reports: "We should like to express gratitude for our new Christian Science study room in John Evans Religious Center. Modern furnishings provide pleasant surroundings in which to read authorized Christian Science literature. The room is open daily, and a committee of students serves as librarian and attendants." The secretary of the organization writes that the study room is nine feet long and twelve feet wide. The colors are predominantly gray and blue. There are three study desks and chairs, wall to wall carpeting, two compact lounge chairs, a floor lamp, a bookcase, and a bulletin board for notices. A picture of Mary Baker Eddy is included.

The organization owns all of our Leader's writings, three Concordances, and three Bible dictionaries. Three sets of books are marked for the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. In addition, all authorized Christian Science literature is subscribed for. The study room is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
