Although I had been a member...

Although I had been a member of an orthodox church for years and had been active in various phases of church work, when Christian Science was presented to me I knew it was the kind of religion I had always wanted. I should like to relate two instances of its healing power.

My husband had suffered from asthma from the age of four. After a physician had advised him that medical science could not help him, he decided to go farther south and enjoy the warm climate. No sooner had we reached our destination than his condition grew more alarming, as he was attacked by a virus infection. I worked for hours declaring every truth I knew, but there was no improvement. The suggestion came that it would have been much better if we had stayed at home. Then the thought came that in reality we were at home, for God was present, and where He abides is home to His child. My husband continued to grow worse, however, and I realized that unless a change for the better came at once he would pass on.

I prayed to God and said: "Father, it is up to You. I have done all I know how to do." The angel message came, "Read the fourteenth chapter of the Gospel of John." I opened the Bible, sat on the side of my husband's bed, and began to read aloud, although I felt that he could not hear a word. When I reached those wonderful words of Christ Jesus' (verses 16, 17), "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth," I realized that the truth was that there could not be a sick man, for man has never been outside of God's kingdom. As I held to this realization I saw my husband sit up in bed, and the healing came. There has been no recurrence of the asthma since then.
