A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TREATMENT
It is not uncommon for one uninstructed in the teaching of the Science of Mind-healing to ask what constitutes a Christian Science treatment or to question why the prayers of Christian Scientists prove to be efficacious when his own prayers have failed to bring about the desired results.
Christian Science prayer, or treatment, is not the exercise of what is sometimes termed a blind faith in God, or of mental suggestion in any form. It is the utilization of divine law, based on a demonstrable scientific understanding of God and of His spiritual creation. Healing is the natural result of Truth understood and demonstrates specifically and conclusively the supremacy of God's immutable law of universal harmony over so-called laws of matter or evil. Paul referred to this healing process when he declared (Rom. 8:2), "The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
Jesus, the great Metaphysician, pointed to the Christly method of healing underlying all his victories over evil when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). Through Christian Science the truth of being is revealed, namely, the allness and perfection of God, infinite Mind, and man's forever oneness, or unity, with his creator, God, as His perfect reflection, or expression. Christian Science declares that God's universe is wholly spiritual and that, consequently, matter or evil, including disease, sin, death, and other mortal discords, is unreal. It classifies these imperfections as erroneous beliefs of mortal consciousness, which have no real existence. We must not think of human discords as physical actualities or material conditions to be overcome, but must see them as false beliefs of mortal mind, without intelligence, power, or reality. It is through this spiritual understanding that we conquer all error.
