To write of what Christian Science...
To write of what Christian Science has done for me is impossible without first acknowledging with love and gratitude that all the good which has been revealed by Christian Science, and which its students are increasingly laying hold of, has come through Mary Baker Eddy's gift to the world: her discovery of the law of God and her safeguarding of that discovery by the establishment of the Christian Science movement.
As a child I loved my church and the Bible; but my early years were overshadowed by constant illness. When I first heard of Christian Science I was in a state of agnosticism, ill-health, and unhappiness. Even after I accepted Christian Science I was very slow in identifying myself with the good it offers each one of us. I can definitely trace my healing of the conditions mentioned to the love that sprang up in me when I saw our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in her true light as the revelator of Truth to this age. Then I was able to drop an underlying fear that there is anything too good to be true. For the rebuke to personal sense that this unfoldment brought I thank God. As our Leader says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 204), "When the good fight is fought, error yields up its weapons and kisses the feet of Love, while white-winged peace sings to the heart a song of angels."
Since that time I have had many physical healings, some of them almost instantaneous, and I have found a happiness, joy, and peace which I never knew before. I have had quick healings of inflammatory rheumatism and sciatica, as well as of prostrating headaches that lasted for days. Influenza and bronchitis have been healed, and colds have disappeared within a few hours. A growth took much longer to overcome, though I had no pain except for a short while before it started to dissolve one Christmas Eve, when I was thinking of what Mrs. Eddy says about Christian healing (ibid., p. 370), "This is the babe we are to cherish." In about a week I could wear my ordinary clothes, something I had been unable to do for some time. I am grateful for healings of fear and of nervousness in various forms. Also I am grateful for the wonderful steadfastness and love of my husband in standing by me during a long period of illness.
