"DRAW NIGH TO GOD"

Can we be closer to God than we actually are right now? Indeed, in our true being we cannot be. When James wrote in his epistle (4:8), "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you," he was stating in language which all can understand the scientific oneness, or unity, of God and man and calling on humanity to prove it. If the apostle had said, "Stop believing that you are separate from God and you will prove your oneness with God," he would have been expressing the same thought. In reality, separation between God and man in His image and likeness is a scientific impossibility.

How grateful we should be to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, for making these truths, long hidden in the pages of Holy Writ, crystal clear. Mrs. Eddy not only has made these truths clear, but has made it possible for mankind to utilize them and thereby "draw nigh to God."

Because God is infinite, incorporeal, eternal Spirit, He cannot be comprehended by finite, material sense. The great human need is to gain a true understanding of God, and this is done by realizing that only the infinite, the incorporeal, the eternal, is real, and that whatever good we manifest in human experience is not of human origin, but divine. In the realm of the real, dualism is impossible. The reality of Spirit necessarily indicates the unreality of matter, as the teachings of Christian Science make clear.
