Camp Welfare Activities
[The following accounts of experiences of servicemen and servicewomen have been received by the Camp Welfare Activities Department and are now shared with the Field.]
A Christian Scientist who is an officer in the Air Force expressed gratitude for having been able to work out a problem of place. Upon his arrival at the Air Group an opportunity to have a command was presented, but the command was assigned to another officer. The Christian Scientist began to think very positively about his situation, to know that man, as a reflection of God, must constantly be in his right place. He became satisfied with the work to which he was assigned, and in one month a transfer of a senior officer provided the opportunity to hold a command. Also, shortly after the original assignment, the Group Commander made it clear he desired the Christian Scientist as one of his squadron commanders. If the original assignment to the first command had been given him, it would possibly have been available for only a week or so.
In playing basketball at an Army post, a soldier who is a Christian Scientist took a bad spill. He landed with one foot in a very awkward position, which appeared to result in a severe strain. Immediately he declared his relationship to God as His perfect manifestation. Upon reaching his quarters, he decided to call the Camp Welfare Worker. In order to comply with military regulations, the condition of the foot was reported at the medical dispensary, where the soldier was told he must have an X ray made of the ankle. While obedient to the instruction given by the camp doctor, the soldier realized he had to choose either to continue with Christian Science treatment or to have medical care. He decided to rely entirely on Christian Science. He did not check the results of the X ray, but was able to go to work the next morning and was on his feet most of the day. Within a few days complete healing was experienced, and the skin discoloration predicted never occurred.
