FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

A Loving and Courageous Stand Heals and Protects

The green cards prepared by this office for use in claiming exemption on religious grounds for public school pupils, teachers, and employees in Pennsylvania from physical examination or treatment are in wider use and are always accepted by school authorities. These can be obtained from Assistant Committees, Christian Science practitioners, or from this office. Each exemption claimed strengthens the position of Christian Scientist in the eyes of the public and speeds the day when their human rights will be fully recognized.

A young mother had requested exemption for her small son from the physical examinations in the school. He was excused from the general examination, but was given eye, ear, and dental examinations. Later, when this card, on which all our exemptions are set forth clearly, was sent to the school, the nurse immediately called and apologized for having given the child the special examinations.

It is through frequent and persistent requests for exemption from physical examination, X-ray and medical tests in schools, colleges, government departments, corporations, Boy and Girl Scouts, and other organizations that the rights of Christian Scientists to religious and medical freedom will eventually be recognized by public authorities, business executives, and others.
