About twenty-six years ago I became interested in Christian Science. The periodicals, including The Christian Science Monitor, were my close companions at a time when I was much alone, and I am profoundly grateful for the encouragement and peace which came to me by way of the glorious truths found therein. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 266): "Would existence without personal friends be to you a blank? Then the time will come when you will be solitary, left without sympathy; but this seeming vacuum is already filled with divine Love. When this hour of development comes, even if you cling to a sense of personal joys, spiritual Love will force you to accept what best promotes your growth."

When a neighbor took our daughters to the Christian Science Sunday School I was prompted to investigate what they were learning. Consequently I began to read from the Bible and Science and Health the references given in the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly.

A year after this I became aware that I was not using glasses, which I had worn for approximately fifteen years, due to astigmatism in both eyes. All those years I suffered from pains in the top of my head if I did not put on the glasses the first thing in the morning and keep them on until the last thing at night. I look back at this healing with deep gratitude to God, knowing that the spiritual vision which was gained through my reading of the Lesson-Sermons helped me to gain a better concept of man's perfect selfhood.
